Italian F4: Imola

Red Bull Junior Jonny put in fine drives, and was just off the podium at Imola.

The outstanding Imola circuit is not an easy place to pass, but the newly crowned ADAC F4 German Champion found many ways to do so.

Jonny: “I just struggled for pace in Qualifying really, we don’t fully understand why. Last time here we were really fast, this time just not as quick so started P8 for all races. In the first race, I gained quite a lot and then got unlucky racing with someone, we touched and I lost a couple of places. I managed to pass a couple, up to P5.”

“In Race 2, I was up to 5th, going for 4th on the first lap then the car I passed hit my rear tyre and I had to pit for a new wheel. So that sent me to the back, P30. I got back to P12 and that was after a couple of Safety Cars so we only had 4 clear racing laps and I gained 18 places so considering what happened that was OK.”

“In the last Race, I lost quite a lot of time getting to P4 because the driver was defending so hard. By the time I got into P4 the first 3 had got a bit of a gap. I was pushing hard to catch them but then had a bit of a mistake and struggled to close the gap after that. I think if I hadn’t lost so much time getting to 4th I could have had a chance for the podium. But considering where I started and the way it went, it was still quite good.”
