Edgar made the right choices
The Van Amersfoort Racing Red Bull Junior dominated the ADAC F4 weekend in Spielberg with Jonny Edgar picking up 2 victories. A technical issue limited 16-year-old Jonny to 7th in Race 3 after wins in Races 1 and 2.
“It was a good weekend, started with a track that was a little bit damp in Qualifying 1. We went out on slicks but I straight away chose to go to wets and that was the right choice. A lot ended up on wets but I went early and got the laps in, got P1. Quali 2 was still damp, I went out on slicks and did a couple of laps but still felt I would be more confident on wets so changed. That worked again as my first lap was good enough for pole because it started spitting again and the conditions got slower. So 2 poles was a good way to start.”
“It was dry for the races, we’d had no dry track time but others had tested so it took me a few laps to get really used to driving here in the dry again. I got a good start and once I settled in the pace was quite good and I didn’t have to push too hard. Race 2, again a good start and the first lap I managed to pull a pretty big gap. There was a Safety Car at the end of lap 1 but my restart was good and within 2 laps I had a 2 second gap, that got up to 3 but I didn’t have to push.”
“In Race 3, the reverse grid, I started 8th and there was a problem with the car. It overheated and the ECU goes into safety mode and turns down the power. From the first lap it was already slow. I couldn’t do much, I managed to pass a few but also lost a few places, losing a lot on the straights so 7th was all that was possible. I think without that I had a good chance of winning.”
