Jonny Edgar and TF Sport Deliver Points Finish at Spa-Francorchamps

BRDC Superstars driver, Jonny Edgar secured a hard-fought points finish in the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, bringing the #33 TF Sport Corvette home in eighth place at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit…

Fresh from a last minute call-up with AO Racing by TF Sport at Le Castellet in the European Le Mans Series, Jonny arrived in the Ardennes ready for another demanding weekend – this time on the world stage of WEC. However, from the outset, it was clear the team faced an uphill battle. Thursday’s practice sessions focused on extracting the most from both qualifying pace and long-run consistency, with the LMGT3 field proving as competitive as ever.

With Ben Keating still sidelined, on Friday afternoon Blake McDonald once again took on qualifying duties, placing the car 14th on the grid for Saturday’s six-hour contest.

Under blue skies and a record crowd of over 100,000+ fans, the race got underway with McDonald delivering a composed opening stint. Keeping the #33 Corvette clean and competitive, he steadily worked his way forward and kept the team within striking distance of the top ten. Jonny, racing with the continued support of D.Tolson and Sons, took over before the half way mark and immeditaely set about continuing the charge. Navigating traffic and avoiding the race’s many incidents, he delivered a measured and determined stint, cementing the team’s position inside the top ten before handing over to Nicky Catsburg for the final phase of the race.

Despite climbing as high as sixth during the race, strategy shifts and a chaotic end to the race, featuring multiple safety cars and collisions, meant the team ultimately crossed the line in eighth. The result still yielded four valuable championship points, keeping Jonny and TF Sport firmly in contention, now sitting fourth in the standings and just eight points off the LMGT3 championship lead.

Speaking after the race, Jonny reflected on a challenging but rewarding weekend:

Jonny: “To come to Spa with any car and championship is always special, and I’ve really enjoyed being back with TF Sport. The team works incredibly hard, and I’m grateful for that. This wasn’t our most competitive weekend, but I think we did everything we could, and scoring points could prove very important later in the season. Now all focus turns to Le Mans; it’s such a privilege to race at that historic track, and hopefully we can deliver another strong result.”

The next round of the FIA World Endurance Championship takes place at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans from 10-14 June, with live coverage available via the FIAWEC+ app and TNT Sports in the UK.
