IMSA Podium of 2025 at Watkins Glen
Jonny Edgar and AO Racing Grab First IMSA Podium of 2025 at Watkins Glen
Jonny Edgar and AO Racing’s “Spike the Draogn” LMP2 squad roared to their first podium of the 2025 IMSA Endurance Cup season, clinching a hard-fought second place at the Legendary Six Hours of The Glen.
Fresh off a top-10 Le Mans finish in the Corvette Z06 GT3 R, Jonny promptly resumed his performance level with AO Racing’s LMP2 car “Spike”, showcasing his adaptability and skill. The weekend started strong for the team, with third-fastest practice times, but drama hit when they had to swap engines just hours before qualifying. However, PJ Hyett then stormed to AO’s first LMP2 pole of the year.
Race day brought classic endurance chaos: rain showers, 58 laps under yellow flags and relentless action. PJ kept “Spike” (who was sporting a gold tail in celebration of the Le Mans class win) out of early trouble and stayed in the hunt for a podium. BRDC Superstar driver, Jonny then delivered a blistering stint, even setting the fastest LMP2 lap for a spell.
In the final hour, Dane Cameron took the wheel and kept the pressure on, surviving a late restart to secure second place and AO Racing’s first silverware of 2025. The team now heads into the next round with momentum and plenty of dragon fire.
Jonny: “It was certainly a wild race with lots of carnage and crashes, and the weather also made it really tricky. I thoroughly enjoyed my stint in the car after PJ took the start and Dane had done his first stint. It’s great to be able to bring home a podium finish after the first two rounds, especially as the mechanics had to work so hard to get the engine changed after practice two and of course with PJ doing a great job to get the pole too. Hopefully, we’ll be able to make another appearance on the podium next time out at Indy.”
Ahead of the highly anticipated “Battle of the Bricks” at Indianapolis (the penultimate round of the IMSA Endurance Cup season), Jonny will participate in the fifth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, taking place in Sao Paulo from 11 to 13 July.
