Jonny Edgar and TF Sport Kick Off 2026 FIA WEC Campaign with Imola Podium

Jonny Edgar made a flying start to his 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign, securing a superb second-place finish alongside TF Sport teammates Blake McDonald and Nicky Catsburg at the 6 Hours of Imola.

At the wheel of the #33 Corvette LMGT3, the Cumbrian racer delivered a standout performance in a fiercely competitive season opener, with the trio charging through the field to claim a well-earned podium in front of a record weekend crowd of 92,175.

The BRDC Superstar’s sophomore WEC season began with the official Prologue, where TF Sport completed a productive and trouble-free test despite mixed conditions. The team quickly found a strong baseline, carrying that momentum into race week.

Off track, Jonny was in demand as part of the championship’s pre-event media activities, helping showcase the team’s striking new Corvette and racewear ahead of the opening round.

The D Tolson & Sons-supported driver, sharing the car with McDonald – who steps in for the injured Ben Keating until Le Mans in June – and experienced GT ace Catsburg, showed early promise by consistently running inside the top five during practice.

Qualifying duties fell to McDonald, who placed the #33 Corvette 14th on the grid. However, that position would prove no reflection of the team’s true race pace.

A clean and composed opening stint from McDonald saw the Corvette climb into the top five before handing over to Jonny at mid-distance. From there, Jonny delivered one of the drives of the race. Combining precision with racecraft, he fought his way into podium contention and was embroiled in a thrilling battle with Garage 59’s Tom Fleming. Despite running on older tyres, Jonny defended resolutely for several laps, showcasing both composure and determination under pressure.

Catsburg took over for the final stint and expertly brought the car home, managing late-race threats and changing conditions to secure second place and 18 valuable championship points.

Jonny: “It was a great weekend and a great way to start the season. The car was real good fun to drive and I really enjoyed my stint. It was nice to have some good battles out there and a clean race and hopefully it’s the start of a successful season in the WEC. As always, I’m very grateful for the team for their hard work both over the official round and also during the prologue.”

The championship now moves to Belgium, where Jonny and TF Sport will return to action at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit for round two of the FIA WEC season on 7-9 May.
