6 Hours of Spa
Jonny Edgar and his #33 TF Sport team endure a challenging 6 Hours of Spa
BRDC Superstar driver, Jonny Edgar and his teammates Dani Juncadella and Ben Keating finished the 6 Hours of Spa, the third round of this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship, in 13th place after a difficult weekend in the Ardennes Forrest.
Following the team’s top 10 finish at the previous round in Imola, Jonny and his teammates were looking to not only maximise their weekend but try to maintain their lead in the standings. However, from the first practice session, it was clear that the weekend at Spa was going to be tough.
Whilst Friday ran without any major dramas, Jonny and his team were unable to break into the top 10, lacking the speed of the other LM GT3 machines and Saturday’s qualifying confirmed the Crovette Z06 GT3’s lack of pace as neither Jonny’s car, being qualified by Ben Keating, nor the sister car advanced through qualifying to Hyperpole.
As with the last two races, Ben Keating, the team’s bronze graded driver, took the start of the race and from 17th on the grid ensured that the car remained in the fight before Jonny, the D. Tolson and Sons supported athlete took over driving duties.
Jonny completed his stint in the middle section of the race without any problems, keeping clear of the drama and accidents occurring around him and moving his team up the race order. As a result, he handed the car over to Dani Juncadella who finished the race in 13th position, the top Corvette.
Jonny: “It was a tough race and a tough weekend in general. We just didn’t have the same pace as the other cars around us and in the end it was a bit disappointing to not be able to score any points this weekend. At least we are still at the top of the LM GT3 Standings though. Nevertheless, I am grateful for all the hard work our team put in over the weekend and I’m looking forward to getting back in the car to make my debut in the Le Mans 24 Hours.”
For the Motorsport UK Team UK Academy driver, the next round of the FIA WEC takes place at the world-famous Circuit de la Sarthe for the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 11-15 June.
