24 Hours of Zolder
One week prior to the resumption of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Austin, Texas, BRDC SuperStars driver and full-time member Jonny Edgar returned to endurance competition at the 24 Hours of Zolder. The Belgian classic marked his third 24-hour race of 2025, following appearances at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans earlier this season.
Jonny teamed up with his TF Sport WEC teammate Tom Van Rompuy, Tom’s father Dirk Van Rompuy, experienced Porsche racer Lars Kern, and factory Porsche driver Kevin Estre. The quartet entered the event in the top-tier GTC class at the wheel of a VR Racing by NGT-prepared Porsche 911 (992) GT3 Cup, fielding the defending overall champions’ entry. Expectations were high, and after a productive run through Thursday’s practice sessions, optimism carried through into qualifying and the Superpole shootout. By nightfall, the #92 Porsche was confirmed to start from P11 on the grid, with Dirk Van Rompuy taking the opening stint.
The early hours of the race unfolded smoothly as Dirk, Kevin, and Lars established a rhythm and worked the car into the top five. Jonny, sponsored by D. Tolson & Sons, completed his first stint at sunset, quickly adapting to the narrow and technical Zolder circuit. Additional night and sunrise stints followed, with the team continuing to battle inside the top five and positioning themselves as genuine podium contenders.
However, a combination of prolonged full-course yellow periods and an untimely technical stop to replace a driveshaft hampered their momentum. Despite these setbacks, the team’s pace remained strong. Through intermittent rain showers and the closing stages of the race, Edgar and his teammates pressed on, with Tom Van Rompuy ultimately taking the chequered flag in a hard-fought fifth place overall.
Reflecting on the event, Jonny said: “This was a really cool experience. The Zolder circuit was great fun to drive, and the Porsche was a joy throughout practice, qualifying, and the race. The VR Racing by NGT team gave us a strong package, and as a group I think we maximized everything we could. Of course, it would have been nice to come away with a podium, but the long FCY periods and the driveshaft issue cost us the chance. Still, it was a valuable weekend and a really enjoyable one.”
“It was great to get back in the car just before the end of the WEC summer break. Now, I’m fully ready to return to the Corvette at the Circuit of the Americas next week – a new track for me. Tom and I will go back to being rivals, but that’s part of the fun.”
The FIA World Endurance Championship resumes this weekend with the 6 Hours of Austin at the Circuit of the Americas. Jonny will rejoin his Corvette Racing teammates Dani Juncadella and Ben Keating as they continue their pursuit of the LMGT3 title. The race will be broadcast live on TNT Sports, Eurosport, and FIAWEC.TV.
