Jonny Edgar quick all weekend and wins at Nürburgring

In a great variety of conditions Jonny excelled with a win and a 3rd at the Nürburgring. The Red Bull Junior heads the points table as he has been since the beginning of the year.

“Tricky conditions sure,” explained the 16-year-old Briton. “So I am happy with that. Qualifying was pretty good, also Race 1 and Race 2. Race 3 was difficult,  so much water, a lot of aquaplaning and you couldn’t see anything. Even with cars that were a couple of seconds ahead, there was so much spray you couldn’t see.”

In Race 3 he was suffering from the reverse grid having been the Race 2 winner. “You really can’t do anything much. I couldn’t see braking markers or even where you are, how close to the corner. Then the car ahead went off and I could see more, straight away, in the half lap before the safety car came out I was a lot quicker, a second up on my lap time just because I could see where I was going. So even in the last race I think the pace wasn’t bad, it was just impossible to get close and push. It was pretty dangerous really,” he added with a wry chuckle.

“I’ve always gone well in the wet, even back when I was karting. Also the team do a good job and the car is always pretty good in the wet.” Jonny made full use of that, leading from Pole in Race 2. “In the lead you don’t see what everyone else is doing so there were one or two points where I was losing quite a bit, but I was still quick enough and I just managed the pace. It was a good weekend for the Championship, I pulled quite a lot on the person who was second and I’m now 30 points ahead. It’s going well.”
