Jonny Edgar Rounds Off 2026 IMSA Season With Top-10 Finish

BRDC Superstars driver, Jonny Edgar, brought his 2026 IMSA Endurance Cup campaign to a close with a hard-fought top-ten finish at Petit Le Mans, after a late-race collision ended AO Racing’s hopes of securing a podium.

The Cumbrian arrived at Road Atlanta aiming to finish his second season in the top tier of American sportscar racing on a high. He had enjoyed a strong weekend at the previous round of the FIA World Endurance Championship in Japan, finishing fifth and extending his lead in the LMGT3 title fight.

Sporting a special livery for the final IMSA round, affectionately named “Rockie”, Jonny and teammates Dane Cameron and PJ Hyett made an encouraging start to the weekend. AO Racing finished either first or second fastest in all three practice sessions in LMP2, while Hyett carried that momentum into qualifying by securing pole position for the 10-hour race.

However, Saturday’s race got off to a difficult start. A bizarre steering wheel issue prevented Hyett from making the most of his pole position, forcing the car into the pits for a replacement steering wheel. Once the problem was resolved, the fightback began. Hyett battled his way back into the race, only to suffer a slow puncture shortly before handing the car over to Jonny. Undeterred, Jonny immediately set about recovering the lost ground. He adapted impressively to the changing weather conditions and moved the car up to third place after a brief red-flag interruption caused by lightning.

Jonny shared the driving duties with Cameron for the remainder of the race, with both drivers producing strong performances during the closing stages. Unfortunately, Cameron was involved in a late-race collision, forcing the car back to the team awning for repairs. The mechanics worked quickly to get the car back on track, but the delay ended AO Racing’s podium challenge. The team eventually crossed the line in 10th place.

Jonny: “It’s a disappointing result, I’m not going to lie. We had a lot of things thrown at us and we really had to fight hard to get back into contention and then also stay at the front. My last stint was really good and it was looking like we were set to at least fight for a podium but, yeah, we got involved in a collision on track which required us to go back to the team awning for repairs. The mechanics did an amazing job to get the car fixed and back out so we could at least finish the race but as I said, we should have left Road Atlanta with an even better result, but that’s racing. I’ve really enjoyed driving with PJ and Dane and working with the AO Racing guys again, it’s been great fun and I really hope we all get to do it again next year.”

With his IMSA season now complete, Jonny’s focus switches solely to the final two rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the ongoing LMGT3 title fight. The 22-year-old will next head to the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya for the 6 Hours of Barcelona, taking place from 16-18 September. The penultimate round of the season will be broadcast live on TNT Sports in the UK and worldwide on FIA WEC+.
