Jonny Edgar Claims Maiden 24 Hours of Zolder Victory
BRDC Superstars athlete and current FIA WEC LMGT3 championship leader, Jonny Edgar returned to the 24 Hours of Zolder this weekend – and left with victory. It marked the Cumbrian’s first win in the Belgian endurance classic and his second 24 hour triumph of 2026, following his June success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Jonny reunited with NGT Racing, the team with which he made his Zolder debut last year. Alongside returning teammates Tom Van Rompuy and Laurens Vanthoor, his 2025 Long Beach Grand Prix winning partner, the lineup was completed by Glenn Van Praet and Betrand Baguette. After mixed dry and wet running in practice and qualifying, the squad showed strong pace, securing third on the grid after Superpole.
The race began in dry conditions, but the Belgian weather soon had its say. As Jonny took the wheel around the four-hour mark, the track grew slippery and daylight began to fade. Keeping the team’s Porsche 992 GT3 Cup out of trouble, he helped steer the car steadily up the order through the night. By Sunday morning, NGT had survived the challenges, seized the lead, and just as on Saturday, negotiated the changing weather conditions with composure. The event concluded under a red flag following a significant GT4 accident, but with the driver unharmed, the team was able to celebrate a hard-fought Zolder win.
Jonny: “I was so pleased to be able to come back and rejoin Tom, Laurens and the NGT Racing team and to race the 24 Hours of Zolder after having had a really good time last year. The car all weekend ran smoothly and was great fun to drive in both the wet and the dry. In the race, I think we as a team executed things very well – as last year we were a bit unlucky at times with the timing of full course yellows, and we did have an issue with one of the circuit fuel pumps but in the end we managed to recover the lost time and enjoyed a great race. It was the perfect way to end the summer break and get ready for the next FIA WEC round this next weekend.”
The six-hour race will be broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports and streamed on FIAWEC+ from 4-6 September.
