2026 Sebring 12 Hours

Jonny Edgar and AO Racing showcase electrifying pace at the 2026 Sebring 12 Hours

D.Tolson and Sons-supported driver, Jonny Edgar delivered another thrilling performance in Florida, showing front-running speed throughout the second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Sebring. Despite crossing the line sixth in class, Jonny and AO Racing walked away as the highest-scoring LMP2 team of the race, strengthening their Michelin Endurance Cup advantage.

For the third consecutive year, Cumbria’s finest tackled the legendary 12 Hours of Sebring – one of America’s most demanding endurance tests – fresh from a winning start at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, where he and his teammates claimed the Endurance Cup Race Winners’ trophy.

However, it wan’t all smooth sailing early on. A heavy impact for teammate PJ Hyett at the final corner in first practice left the crew with major repairs, including a gearbox change. In true AO Racing fashion, the team’s determination shone through – “Spike the Dragon,” their striking purple Oreca LMP2, roared back to form and even topped the second practice session.

Come Thursday’s qualifying, Hyett put in a composed lap to secure fourth on the grid. When the green flag dropped in front of Sebring’s packed grandstands, he quickly settled into a rhythm and by the end of the first hour, the #99 was leading the LMP2 field. Jonny took over during the third hour and immediately got to work chasing down the leaders. Alongside Dane Cameron, the pair consistently ran at the sharp end, collecting valuable Michelin Endurance Cup points at the the four and eight-hour intervals for holding first and second places respectively. Their relentless pace kept fans on edge, as “Spike” remained in contention for a well-earned podium into the night.

Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on their side. During one of Jonny’s stints, an unexpected full-course yellow forced an emergency pit stop, costing the team crucial seconds. Despite the setback, both Jonny and Cameron pushed hard to recover, eventually taking the chequered flag in a fighting fifth place, though the timing sheets initially reflected sixth.

Their tenacity paid off: the trio scored the most championship points of any LPM2 entrants across the 12 hours, maintaining their lead in the Michelin Endurance Cup standings with 25 points.

Jonny: “Overall, it’s been a really solid weekend. We scored good points, showed strong pace, and were right in the mix for the win. We just got unlucky with the timing of that full-course yellow, but that’s racing. The positives far outweigh the negatives—onto the next one!”

Jonny’s IMSA campaign will resume at Watkins Glen on June 28th, but before then, he’ll be back in FIA World Endurance Championship action. His sophomore season with TF Sport and Corvette Racing begins at the 6 Hours of Imola on April 19th, broadcast live on TNT Sports (UK), Eurosport (Europe), and FIAWEC+ worldwide.
