Jonny Edgar concludes debut FIA WEC campaign with strong top-six finish in Bahrain

D. Tolson and Sons-supported driver Jonny Edgar capped off his maiden season in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with an impressive sixth-place finish in the 8 Hours of Bahrain, securing sixth overall in the LMGT3 standings alongside teammates Dani Juncadella and Ben Keating.

The season finale, held a day earlier than usual under Bahrain’s desert sunset, saw the #33 Corvette Z06 GT3.R team make full use of Thursday’s practice sessions to refine setup for both qualifying and race conditions. Running in daytime and nighttime sessions provided valuable insight into tyre and balance behaviour ahead of the eight-hour endurance challenge.

For the final time in 2025, Keating qualified the car for the season finale, narrowly missing a spot in Hyperpole with a lap that placed the Corvette 11th on the grid.

The American also took the start of Saturday’s race, enduring early contact from rival cars yet holding firm inside the top 10 before handing over to Edgar as dusk fell over the Bahrain International Circuit.

Edgar immediately demonstrated his pace, battling wheel-to-wheel with the #77 Ford Mustang and pulling off a decisive move for eighth position moments before a safety car period closed up the field. Benefiting from the team’s strategy, he resumed the race in fifth following the restart but was later tagged by the #21 AF Corse Ferrari at Turn 8, forcing a spin. He rejoined without losing places and delivered a determined middle stint, even leading laps and staying firmly in the top five before handing the car to Juncadella for the closing stages.

A composed final stint from Juncadella brought the #33 Corvette home in sixth place, confirming the trio’s sixth position in the end-of-season championship standings.

Reflecting on the year, Jonny said: “It’s been a fantastic season with the team — I just wish it could have ended with a slightly better result. We took a few knocks during the race, and getting spun round by the #21 Ferrari cost us some time, but to climb from 11th on the grid and finish just shy of the top five is still a great effort. I’d like to thank the team for an incredible season. It’s been hugely enjoyable, and I’ve learned so much throughout the year.”
