Jonny Edgar Helps AO Racing Secure 2025 IMSA Teams’ Title

BRDC Superstar Jonny Edgar capped off an impressive IMSA Endurance Cup campaign by helping AO Racing clinch the 2025 IMSA Teams’ Championship at the world famous Petit Le Mans in Georgia. The 10 hour classic at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta saw Edgar and his teammates wrap up the season with a hard-earned sixth-place finish.

Thursday’s practice sessions ran smoothly across day and night conditions, allowing the team to fine-tune their #99 Oreca LMP2. After Friday’s autograph session, PJ Hyett took “Spike the Dragon” – sporting a striking Halloween-inspired livery – to second on the grid following a post-session adjustment.

Hyett handled the opening stages well amid multiple incidents and Full Course Yellows before handing over to Edgar in third. Four hours into the race, the D Tolson and Sons-supported driver suffered a right rear puncture after contact but returned safely to the pits. Despite losing a lap, Edgar rejoined in the top ten and helped the team claw back through the field.

With Dane Cameron later taking over, momentum continued as AO Racing regained the lead lap and re-entered podium contention. Edgar’s sunset stint was strong and consistent, positioning the car in second before late-race drama reshuffled the order. The team ultimately crossed the line sixth – enough to secure both the LMP2 Teams’ and Drivers’ Championships.

Reflecting on the season, Edgar said: “Of course it would have been nice to have got one more podium finish at the end of the season and despite the drama and the puncture we looked on course for it, but it just didn’t quite materialise. The most important thing though is that the team got their LMP2 title which was very important and also PJ and Dane their title in the LMP2 drivers’ standings. It’s been a very enjoyable season with the team and it’s always incredible to win a couple of championships. Road Atlanta was a fun track to race too, the fans were great this weekend and everyone on the team deserved the titles after all their hard work and efforts this season.”

The Infinity Sports Management driver now turns his attention to his FIA World Endurance Championship finale – the 8 Hours of Bahrain on November 8th.
