Jonny Edgar Clinches Consecutive Top-10 Finishes in the FIA WEC at 6 Hours of São Paulo

BRDC Superstars driver Jonny Edgar and his TF Sport team continued their impressive FIA World Endurance Championship campaign, securing a second top-10 finish in the LM GT3 class at the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo.

Jonny, alongside teammates Dani Juncadella and Ben Keating, brought the #33 Corvette Z06 GT3 home in seventh place, reinforcing their position in the championship ahead of the final three rounds.

After a promising Le Mans debut in June, the Cumbrian rising star arrived at Interlagos determined to maintain momentum and strengthen the team’s LM GT3 title aspirations.

The Sao Paulo weekend began on a positive note with Jonny and the TF Sport crew immediately on the pace, setting the third fastest time in the opening practice. Throughout Friday’s sessions, the team fine-tuned setups for both qualifying and the demanding six-hour race.

Saturday saw D Tolson and Sons supported driver Jonny top the final practice session in LM GT3, underscoring the squad’s credentials heading into qualifying. Per WEC regulations, bronze-rated Keating handled initial qualifying duties and, for the first time this season, advanced the #33 Corvette into the Hyperpole shootout. Jonny seized the opportunity to drive in Hyperpole, delivering the ninth-best time in a fiercely competitive field.

Under blue skies, the 6 Hours of São Paulo got underway on Sunday morning with Keating at the wheel, but the American had a tricky start, forced to the runoff at turn one to avoid a collision, before an incident and penalty dropped the car back in the opening hour. Despite these setbacks, Jonny and Juncadella mounted a strong recovery, navigating the tricky traffic of GT3 and Hypercar contenders.

Jonny showcased mature racecraft, notably avoiding a multi-class incident at turn four and holding off a late charge from United Autosports’ McLaren in the race’s closing stages. The team’s efforts were rewarded with a hard-earned seventh-place finish as evening settled over the famous Sao Paulo circuit.

Reflecting on the weekend, Jonny said: “It’s been a positive weekend. We showed good pace at various points over the weekend and I enjoyed being able to take the car out in Hyperpole for the first time this year. It was a tricky race and we certainly had some close calls and set backs to overcome but as always the TF Sport crew did an exceptional job. I really enjoyed my time in Brazil and I’m looking forward to the next race in Austin Texas. The Circuit of the Americas in a Corvette I think will be pretty special!”

The FIA WEC season now moves to North America for the Lone Star Le Mans at Circuit of the Americas, Austin, Texas on 5-7 September.
