Sterling show at Shenington

1st October 2013

MSA NATIONAL CHAMPS FOR COMER CADET 29/9/20

After disappointing results at PF a week earlier, Jonny recovered well when the final round of this year’s Comer Championships were held on Shenington’s historic circuit.

He finished 3rd fastest in Timed Qualifying behind Will Pettitt and Tom Wood and was unlucky to be placed 5th in the opening Heat, won by Olli Caldwell. The top six were separated by less than 1 second in this race. After a very close battle with Will Pettitt, Jonny managed to win the next Heat and started Sunday’s 1st Final off grid 2.

Once again there was a very tight battle up at the front. Pettitt led for most of the race before being replaced by Oliver York. Wood claimed 2nd spot with Jonny less than half a kart’s length behind in 3rd.

Final 2 turned out to be another fiercely contested affair. For much of this race Jonny held a top three position and looked poised to strike. With just a few laps remaining, though, he put a wheel off the circuit whilst attempting to overtake Olli Caldwell. That dropped him down to 6th position and he held this place right up to the finish.

The points scored at Shenington were good enough to earn Jonny 4th place in the final championship standings behind Oliver York, Alex Quinn and Tom Wood. “It’s a great result for us as we began the season hoping for a top ten championship slot,” said Justin.
