Shake-down at Shenny

18th September 2013

SHENINGTON CLUB MEETING 15/9/2013

On the face of it, this was just another club meeting. With the final round of this year’s British Championships due to take place here in four weeks time, however, it was used as a shake-down for the big event. Consequently, just about all Britain’s top cadet drivers were out in force.

Jonny went very well in all of his Heats, starting the day with a fine 2nd place on his first outing. This was followed by 3rd position next time out. He started Heat 3 from 28th position on the grid, but produced a gritty performance to eventually finish in 8th spot. He started the “A” Final in 3rd position and contested the lead with Zach Robertson for much of this race. On the last lap he made a determined effort to snatch victory but unfortunately both karts touched. Albert Carter seized his chance and came through for the win ahead of Joe Turney. Zach finished 3rd but Jonny was demoted to 7th place behind Tom Wood, Sean Butcher and Alex Quinn.

“The result wasn’t really important to us,” said Justin who couldn’t attend this race due to work commitments. “What mattered most was that Jonny posted some quick times and, by all accounts, could hold his own when things got a bit hot out there.” Jonny is currently lying 5th in the British Championships with a couple of rounds still remaining. When a dropped score is taken into account, he’s actually 4th behind Oliver York, Alex Quinn and Tom Wood. If he can hold that position at the yearend it would be a truly fantastic result for someone so young.
