No luck at Larkhall

10th July 2013

BRITISH CADET CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 3 7th July, 2013

After disappointing results at Glan ‘Y Gors, Jonny’s championship challenge appeared to be getting back on track when the Super 1 Series for IAME Cadets moved up to Larkhall. He finished 2nd quickest in his group during Timed Qualifying, just two hundredths of a second slower than the championship favourite, Oliver York. However, the circuit had slowed slightly compared to the first session and he ended up 6th overall.

He finished 4th in his opening Heat just a few yards behind the top three and things were looking promising. Next time out, though, he sustained a series of knocks that dropped him down to 10th place. It meant that he’d be starting Final 1 off grid 11.

Jonny gradually advanced through the field in this race and began the last lap holding 4th position behind Tom Wood, Sean Butcher and Herbie Grout. Whilst trying to take 3rd place, however, he left a gap for Alex Quinn to take advantage of. Nevertheless 5th place amongst this level of competition was pretty good.

It looked even better in Final 2 when he went into 3rd spot after less than a lap had been completed. However, he soon developed clutch problems that affected his drive out of the corners. This caused him to slip down the running order and he eventually came home in 10th place.

“It wasn’t our best round, but I’m still pleased with Jonny’s overall performance,” said Justin afterwards. “He’s officially lying 8th in the championship table but moves up to 4th on dropped scores. I’d be more than happy if that position was maintained throughout the Series.”
