Rocking at Rowrah

February 10th, 2013: Jonny was in great form at Rowrah, when a top class grid of IAME powered cadets turned out. The weather forecasters had predicted snow in the afternoon, but temperatures remained comfortably above freezing point. Nevertheless, the circuit still remained damp and slippery after Saturday’s persistent rain.
His day got off to a good start when he followed Sean Butcher home to claim 2nd place in Heat 1. Alex McDade took 3rd spot ahead of Gordon Mutch. Jonny grabbed the honours next time out with a well judged last lap manoeuvre. McDade, Butcher and Mutch filled the next three spots.
With his close rivals Butcher and McDade setting off at the front in Heat 3, Jonny faced a difficult task as he had to come through from the back. However, he soon caught up with the leading pack, setting the fastest lap time along the way. Once again he grabbed 1st place on the final lap and maintained it to the finish.
It was clear by this stage that the final would be hotly contested by at least four individuals, with little to choose between them. From pole position Jonny took an immediate lead but couldn’t shake off Butcher and McDade, who followed closely behind. Mutch was also able to catch the three leaders.
At half distance McDade took over 1st place and Jonny dropped back to 3rd spot a lap later, as Mutch nipped past him. The front four were circulating nose to tail as they began their last lap. Jonny went up to 2nd place but couldn’t find a way past the leader.
Mutch had dropped back to 4th but going into the final turn he hit Butcher from behind. Jonny suffered from a domino effect that caused him to run off the track allowing Butcher to take 2nd place. However, he did manage to remain ahead of Mutch to finish the race in 3rd spot.
“We were very pleased with Jonny’s pace throughout the day,” claimed Justin. “We probably went slightly wrong with our set-up for the final but it was a race where performance mattered more than the actual result.“
