The Magnificent Seven

S1 Round Bank Holiday Weekend, August 26/27

28th August 2012

Jonny secured the Lakeland Trophy with a scintillating performance that earned him seven wins in eight races over the weekend. In mixed weather conditions on Sunday, he won all three of his Heats to secure pole position for the Final, starting this race as odds on favourite.

Unfortunately, carburetion problems on the opening lap caused him to drop right down the field. He was able to adjust the carburettor setting after a couple of laps and climbed up to 3rd by the end. It meant that he started Monday’s events tying on points with Matthew Easton.

All of Monday’s Heats and Final were run in very wet conditions. Once again, Jonny looked to be in unbeatable form as he claimed 1st place in the three Heats. Starting the Final off pole position he managed to build up a sizeable lead after a couple of laps. Cory-Jay Coupe chased hard, but Jonny maintained the gap and won with around 30 yards to spare.

The Lakeland Trophy is decided by adding up the points scored in all Heats and Finals over both days. Jonny’s tally was such that only a non finish in Monday’s final could have deprived him of the trophy. It was, indeed, a job well done.
