Runner Up at Rowrah

12th July 2012

(Club Meeting 8th July 2012)

Jonny enjoyed another successful weekend racing on his home circuit at Rowrah. There was a bright start to Sunday’s proceedings and, on a dry circuit he won his first Heat convincingly. Matt Easton followed him home in this one with S1 and Stars contender Josh Skelton claiming 3rd spot. Next time out Josh took the honours ahead of Jonny.

The heavens opened before Heat 3 got underway and Jonny struggled to 4th place with an engine that was badly misfiring in the pouring rain. Josh was a very comfortable winner in this one. Nevertheless, Jonny’s Heat positions were good enough to earn him a front row slot for the final.

A mistake on the rolling lap meant that he was unable to start this race in his rightful position. By the time he’d fought his way through to 2nd spot, Josh was well out in front. After that, Jonny had his hands full holding off Cory-Jay Coupe who placed him under tremendous pressure throughout this race. However, he kept his nerve well and finished half a kart’s length in front.

“As always, Jonny tried hard throughout the race and I was pleased with his effort,” said Justin. “Josh is now a very accomplished driver who has performed well at national level all this year, so we certainly aren’t disappointed to finish behind him. Jonny is still very tiny and has to carry lots of lead which, of course, is a static load. That’s always a disadvantage in slippery conditions so 2nd place was a very good result for him and I’m well pleased.”

Jonny’s next race will be the Welsh Championships at Glan ‘Y Gors on July 22nd.
