Smiles at Super 1

25th April 2012

PFI 22nd APRIL, 2012

Track conditions were poor, his kart set up wasn’t perfect and he went out on the wrong tyre pressures but Jonny still went home smiling after his first race in Super 1. Saturday’s programme was made up of Timed Qualifying plus both Heats. He emerged as 11th quickest in his group placing him on grid 19 for the first Heat. He started this race very well, working his way up to 13th slot initially before taking one or two knocks that cost him half a dozen places. However he still made it up to 17th position at the finish.

Next time out conditions were a good bit drier and once again Jonny made up places early on. After a set-back half way through the race he put in some quick laps that brought him up with the main pack top eventually finish 14th. His results from both Heats were good enough to secure him a place in the “A” Final.

“Sunday’s weather was very changeable and finding the right set-up became a gamble,” explained Justin. “To be honest, we didn’t get things right and Jonny struggled in the first Final where he finished 25th. We increased the tyre pressures next time out and he did much better early on but his kart went off towards the end.”

Jonny eventually finished the race in 23rd spot and Justin said he was quite happy with the result. “I didn’t set him any targets because we knew that his first race in Super One was always going to be hard,” he pointed out. “Qualifying for the “A” Final was more than good enough for me and I think we’re both looking forward to the next round at Whilton Mill.”
