Jonny produced another great performance during the final round of this year's British Championships. After emerging 2nd quickest from Friday's Timed Qualifying session, he led for most of the way in Heat 1, before taking a knock that pushed him down to 6th position. Despite pulling off a win in the next one, he started Sunday's first final off grid 6.
He immediately slotted in behind the race leader, Taylor Barnard, and these two very quickly built up a lead that had stretched to 80 yards or more by half distance. It wasn't until the final lap that Jonny made a move to take over 1st position. Almost immediately, though, Barnard regained his lead and narrowly held on to win by just a few inches. Harry Thompson finished 3rd more than 250 yards behind.
The main final followed a similar pattern. Barnard once again took command with Jonny pushing hard behind him. Thompson led the chasing pack, but was already 60 yards behind at half distance. On the final lap Jonny went ahead but was overtaken half way round by Barnard. With just a couple of bends remaining, however, Jonny swept around the outside and held on to win by a couple of yards.
Jonny is now focusing his attentions on this weekend's Little Green Man round. He has a ten point championship lead over Harry Thompson, with Patterson back in 3rd spot. 4th place in the Final should be good enough to secure the title, although with bonus points awarded for pole position and fastest lap, nothing can be certain.
