LITTLE GREEN MAN CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 8 20/9/2015
Jonny earned his corn at Shenington with a colossal performance that has moved him ten points ahead in the Little Green Man Championships. It was his third consecutive LGM victory and means that he’ll be going to PF for the final round holding a very significant advantage over close rival Harry Thompson.
The weekend didn’t get off to a particularly good start when some bumping and bashing in his opening Heat knocked him down to 3rd spot from a favourable grid placing. Jonny took another big knock in Heat 2 that left him struggling well down the field, but he produced a determined drive to eventually finish 4th.
He started his 3rd and final Heat off grid 28, but came through well to record a 9th place finish. That was good enough for pole position for the final and with it 3 important bonus points. He led the final from start to finish, overcoming strong pressure from the Zip-kart works driver, Owen Marlow. They had built up a gap of more than 50 yards over Finlay Bunce and Harry Thompson.
Thompson managed to relieve Finlay Bunce of 3rd spot just before the finish with Dexter Patterson back in 5th spot. It meant that Patterson can’t now finish higher than 2nd, no matter how well he performs at PF in the final round. Thompson is the only driver who can now finish ahead of Jonny, but a 4th place finish at PF should make sure that the title comes to West Cumbria.
Earlier in the year Harry had emerged as a strong title favourite, winning four out of five rounds and taking 2nd place in the other one. Jonny has won the last three rounds, but just as importantly, he’s secured six pole positions, earning him eighteen bonus points. His worst result to date has been in round 2 at Kimbolton where he finished 4th.
