LGM CHAMPS ROUNDS 6 & 7 AT ROWRAH 30-31/8/2015

Jonny’s dominant form in Rowrah’s Double Header allowed him to leapfrog his close rivals Harry Thompson and Dexter Patterson in the Little Green Man Championships. He now enjoys a lead of 28 points in this competition, although Thompson is just a single point behind him on dropped scores.

There was no stopping Jonny on Sunday when he was clearly quicker than any of his opponents. Despite tangling with Patterson in his opening Heat, he managed a quick recovery to take 2nd place behind Taylor Barnard. He followed this with a comfortable win in Heat 2, finishing more than 100 yards ahead of Alex Walker in 2nd spot. Things were a little more difficult next time out as he started this race off grid 26. Nevertheless, he came through the pack well and eventually claimed 7th place. This set of results was more than good enough to earn pole position for the “A” Final.

Unusually for him he made a slow getaway in this race, allowing Lorcan Hanafin to take an early lead. After three laps had been completed, however, he took command. Lorcan remained tucked in close behind before making a slight error that allowed Jonny to pull out a ten yard gap. After that, he steadily increased his advantage to win comfortably. Patterson finished behind Hanafin in 3rd spot with Barnard 4th.

Monday’s racing followed a similar pattern. Jonny came through well from a midfield set off to take 3rd spot in Heat 1. He had a lot of work to do in the next one after setting off 28th. 6th place in this one was an excellent result for him and he celebrated by establishing a winning margin of 80 yards over Harry Thompson in his last Heat. Once again, he claimed pole position for the “A” Final.

On this occasion he made a good start with Patterson following some ten yards behind. Steadily he pulled away and the win was never seriously in doubt. With less than two laps remaining, Thompson went through into 2nd place but by this time Jonny had extended his advantage to more than 200 yards.

“We’ve had an excellent weekend,” Justin conceded. “Jonny is now leading both major championships and that’s something I hadn’t anticipated beforehand. There are still two rounds remaining in each Series, so we’re certainly not counting any chickens just yet.”
