Bold at Buckmore

Jonny was in great form at Buckmore Park when the Little Green Man Championships passed the halfway mark. He won his opening heat by a wide margin and then came from the back to finish 5th next time out. After winning Heat 3 he was assured of pole position for the Final.
He pulled out a big gap over his opponents from the start of this race. Unfortunately it all came to nought when an accident brought out the Battenberg flag and he had to slow immediately. Once the all clear signal was given, Dexter Patterson launched past him to gain an unexpected lead. Jonny was swallowed up by the pack and suddenly found himself down in 8th place. Worse still, he was 60 yards or more behind Patterson.
Showing great determination, he set about picking up places and recovering lost ground. When he passed Harry Thompson for 2nd place, the gap to Patterson had been halved. Unfortunately, by that stage, there were only three laps remaining. With Thompson in tow behind him he quickly reduced the gap down to zero. Just as Dexter glanced over his shoulder to see how big a lead he still had, so jonny and Harry stormed past him.
On the final lap it was very much a case of defending his position. Thompson, though, had other ideas and made a bold lunge for the lead. Just when it looked as though both karts would collide, Jonny took evasive action. Thompson protected his position at the end to claim a very narrow victory, with Patterson finishing several yards behind in 3rd spot.
“It was a thrilling race and Jonny did everything that could be asked of him,” said Justin afterwards. “He defended well on the last lap and didn’t make any mistakes. There was nothing he could do to counter the move from Harry. His manoeuvre wasn’t one you’d normally expect at this stage in a championship, but it paid off for him.”
With 5 bonus points Jonny collected for pole position and setting the fastest lap he equalled Harry’s score at Buckmore. He has now overtaken Dexter Patterson for 2nd place in the championships with four rounds still remaining.
