LGM Opener at PFi

6th April 2015

PFi 5/04/15

Jonny made a good start to the domestic championship season by taking 2nd place in an exciting Little Green Man final at PFi. His outstanding performance in the Heats earned him pole position for this race and also brought three bonus points that could prove crucial at a later date.

Jonny was quick right from the word go in Saturday's practice sessions and it was no surprise when he took an early lead in Heat 1 later that afternoon. However, Lorcan Hanafin pulled off a last lap manoeuvre to deprive him of victory in this race. There were no mistakes in his 2nd Heat on Sunday morning as Jonny led virtually from start to finish. Finlay Bruce took 2nd spot on this occasion.

Despite being involved in a first bend collision in Heat 3 that relegated him to last position, he fought back well and eventually made it up to 4th spot, crucially one place higher than Dexter Patterson who looked like being his closest challenger. That set him up for a good result in the all important final.

He took an immediate lead in this race, closely followed by Joseph Taylor. Patterson led the chasing pack around ten yards behind. Initially, Jonny and Joseph were able to stretch this gap, but when the lead changed hands at half distance, Patterson was able to close it.

Jonny took over 1st place once more but, with just over three laps remaining he was forced wide and dropped down to 6th spot. However, he fought back once again and was holding 3rd place as they began their final lap. He captured 2nd spot half way around this lap with Patterson following him through. With a couple of bends left to negotiate, Dexter fell victim to a last gasp effort from Reggie Duhy that affected both drivers.

Harry Thompson took the win, with Jonny happy to settle for 2nd spot ahead of Taylor Barnard. Joseph Taylor finished one place off the podium in 4th spot, followed by Finlay Bruce and Albert Carter. Thompson now tops the championship table with 100 points. Jonny lies 2nd with 98 points, six ahead of Barnard.

"Last season we had seven different winner from eight rounds,2 said Justin. "Only Teddy Wilson managed to win twice and he eventually finished 3rd in the table. What's important is consistency rather than race victories so we are more than happy with our start to the season."
