Power at the Mill

28th January 2015

Whilton Mill Club Meeting (25/1/15)

It was far from being a ôrun of the millö performance, although he did run out of wind during one particular race. With a full grid of IAME cadets competing at Whilton Mill, the competition was intense. At the start of JonnyÆs 3rd Heat he was knocked onto the grass and subsequently lost his tyre valve. At first, Jonny managed to set some quick times and picked up places, but once his tyre became completely deflated most of these early gains were lost and he eventually finished down in 15th spot.

Earlier that day heÆd won his opening Heat and finished 3rd in the other one, making him favourite to claim pole position for the final. The flat tyre sustained in Heat 3 meant that he would actually start from grid 4. Once again he was involved in an incident at Turn 1 that cost him a lot of time. Lorcan Hanafin and Joseph Taylor took full advantage of JonnyÆs predicament, opening out a lead of more than 40 yards before theyÆd completed a lap. Gradually, though, he was able to make up lost ground and had caught the leading pair by half distance.

A lap later, Jonny went into the lead, but Taylor moved back in front next time around. On the next tour Jonny moved out in front once again and this time he was able to hold on until the finish. Brandon Martland had joined in the battle for 1st place and he made a late bid to snatch 2nd spot from Taylor, with Hanafin settling for 4th.

"It was a good result for us" claimed Justin afterwards. "With the obvious exception of Dexter Patterson and Taylor Barnard I think almost all the front runners were out in force at Whilton Mill. Following his result out in Florida, JonnyÆs confidence was running high and I think that ultimately it made the difference."
