Right result at Rowrah

14th April 2014

CLUB MEETING (13th April 2014)

Once again most of Britain’s leading IAME cadet drivers turned up at Rowrah with the top teams Fusion, AIM, Eclipse and Next Gen all out in force. With 27 cadets signing on, all three Heats were well contested. Jonny won Heat 1 and followed up with 2nd and 4th positions in the next two. These results were good enough to secure pole position for the Final with Tom Wood alongside him.

He went straight into the lead in this race, with Wood initially following close behind. However, Zach Robertson soon took over from Wood and remained glued to Jonny’s rear bumper throughout most of this race. Gradually these two were able to pull away from Wood and Alex McDade, with another large gap before Mario Mills and Owen Marlow appeared.

Jonny didn’t appear to be troubled until he caught up with one of the back markers who stubbornly refused to move over. Whilst he attempted to overtake, Robertson seized the advantage and came through into 1st place. Zach’s lead was short lived, though, as Jonny pulled off a neat move on the last lap. Helped by the back marker’s intervention, Wood and McDade were able to claw back the 30 yards gap and both drivers finished just a metre or so behind.

It was the right result that rewarded a strong performance all weekend, as Jonny had proved to be quick in Saturday’s practice sessions and maintained his speed throughout Sunday’s racing.

The meeting served as a good confidence builder in preparation for this Sunday’s Little Green Man Round at Larkhall. It will be followed on May 3rd & 4th by round 2 of the British Championships at Rowrah when Jonny hopes to extend his lead.
