Rowrah rewards

12th December 2013

CKRC ANNUAL AWARDS & “O” PLATE MEETING (7&8/12/2013)

Jonny attended Cumbria Kart Racing Club’s annual awards night on Saturday and picked up a couple of trophies. One of them was first won by his uncle, Robert Jenkinson, 15 years beforehand.

Albert Duffy was the Club President when Rowrah first opened more than 50 years ago. In 1998 Albert donated a special annual cup awarded to the most outstanding club member racing in national or international events. After winning the 1998 British Championships, Robert became the first recipient.

Jonny collected the same award for his outstanding performance in this year’s ABkC Open Championships for Comer Cadets, which he won against all odds. He also won an award for the highest placed club member in the British Cadet Championships after finishing 6th.

The following day he was racing in the Club “O” Plate meeting and came under strong pressure from Dexter Patterson. Jonny emerged from Timed Qualifying as the quickest driver with Dexter next up around half a second slower. This gave him pole position for Heat 1, which he duly won. Dexter followed close behind. They were both about 100 yards ahead of Fin Kenneakky in 3rd spot.

The grids were reversed next time out, but Jonny was still able to repeat his 1st Heat victory. Once again Dexter followed him home and Kenneally took 3rd spot ahead of Joseph Taylor.
The final produced one of the most exciting races ever seen at Rowrah as Jonny and Dexter continually swapped places throughout all of the 11 laps. However, Jonny was able to hold his nerve and finally crossed the line about 10 yards in front. Fin Kenneally finished some 50 yards or so behind Dexter, with Sam White beating Joseph Taylor for 4th position.

“Jonny set the fastest time in all three races, but Dexter gave us some heart stopping moments,” said Justin. “I though both drivers showed a lot of skill on a very slippery circuit and all of their overtaking moves were very clean. I’m sure that Dexter will be one of the front runners in next year’s British Championships, so it was a good result for Jonny.”
