Bad day at the office

1st October 2013

BRITISH CADET CHAMPIONSHIPS Rd 5 AT PF 22/9/13

Despite his best efforts, Jonny had a bad weekend at the PF circuit in Lincolnshire and his championship hopes suffered accordingly as he slipped down to 7th place in the table. He now requires an outstanding result in the final round at Shenington to secure a top four slot.

At PF he struggled for pace throughout Friday’s practice sessions. Things seemed to improve on Saturday morning when he emerged from Timed Qualifying as the 3rd fastest driver. However, he had a couple of bad Heat results, finishing 10th and 12th, which placed him 15th on the starting grid for Sunday’s 1st Final.

Jonny sustained a knock at the start of this race that pushed him down to 25th spot. Initially, it looked as though he was making a good recovery, climbing up to 19th after just one lap. After gaining a few more places, though, his motor gradually lost power and he had to struggle hard for 17th place.

“We made some radical alterations to the carburettor settings after this race and Jonny was much quicker in Final 2,” explained Justin. “Unfortunately, it was a bit too late in the day for us to salvage a good result.”

Jonny had to fight his way through from 17th place and the main pack had moved a good way out of reach. He did well to take 10th position eventually and his lap times were comparable with the front runners, which was some small consolation. Hopefully, the final round at Shenington will bring him rather better fortune.
