LARKHALL LOSS
31st July 2013
MSA COMER CADET CHAMPIONSHIPS Rd 5 28/7/2013
Things didn’t quite go to plan for Jonny at Larkhall. During Friday’s practice sessions, he’d looked exceptionally quick and went confidently into Saturday’s timed Qualifying session. He emerged in 4th place, just a tenth of a second slower than Alex Quinn who topped the list.
He maintained a very strong challenge in Heat 1 until his motor began to lose power, dropping him down to 5th place. Next time he experienced further problems when the engine began to smoke. He was still able to limp home in 7th spot, placing him 5th on the grid for Final 1 on Sunday.

Saturday’s racing had been held on a perfectly dry circuit but Sunday’s weather conditions were entirely different. The rain fell steadily until after 2pm, by which time Final 1 had already finished. Jonny got off to a great start in this one and for almost half the race he challenged Tom Wood for the lead. However, this worked to the advantage of Oliver York and Sean Butcher who pushed him back into 4th spot. In the latter stages he was engaged in a battle with Alex McDade who eventually seized 4th position.
Jonny made another fast getaway in Final 2 and got into 3rd spot initially. However, he was forced wide around the Esses and dropped back to 6th position. In the latter stages, his kart appeared to “go off” and he lost a couple more places to eventually finish 8th.
It was a disappointing end to the weekend, although he still retains 6th place in the Championships with one round remaining. “We began this year hoping for a top ten position in the three major championships and, so far, Jonny looks like exceeding our expectations,” said Justin. “That would give us an excellent foundation for the 2014 season, although Jonny himself is always striving for more.”
