LITTLE GREEN MAN CHAMPS Rd 2 AT LARKHALL (20/4/2014)
A brilliant victory for Jonny at Larkhall has moved him up into 2nd place in the Little Green Man Championship table, just 2 points behind Teddy Wilson.
He took full advantage of the Larkhall sunshine with a blistering performance in his three Heats, winning two of them and finishing 4th in the other one. These results could have been even better but for an accident that required one race to be run under the black and yellow Battenberg flags for several laps. It meant that no-one could overtake and thus prevented Jonny from improving on 4th spot.
Securing pole position in the final earned him 2 bonus points but Jonny was clearly bent on getting 100 more for the win. Championship favourite Tom Wood started this race alongside him, but after a bad 1st corner he dropped down to 7th spot.
Along with Dexter Patterson and Teddy Wilson, Jonny was part of a trio that almost immediately pulled away from the chasing pack. Dexter assumed an early lead but Jonny took over with four laps remaining. Dexter fought back to lead them round on their final tour with Teddy in 2nd spot. However, Jonny smartly overtook both drivers and kept his head to win the race.
Patterson took 2nd place ahead of Wilson. About 80 yards further back, Wood claimed 4th spot followed by Joe Turney and Zac Robertson. Kiern Jewiss, Owen Byatt, Fin Kenneally and Ben Wooldridge made up the top ten.
Jonny currently leads the British Championships by a slender 2 points over Tom Wood. He hopes to consolidate this position on Sunday 4th May when Round 2 takes place at Rowrah. The following week he’ll be at Glan Y Gors in North Wales for Round 3 of the Little Green Man.
“Both Championships are extremely tight and any one of ten drivers could end up winning,” said Justin. “I’d be surprised if one person manages to win both but right now Jonny is very well placed in each of them. I was certainly well pleased at the Larkhall result because he showed a lot of maturity throughout all his races there.”
