Super Show at Shenington

17th September 2012

Jonny produced his best performance of the season when he captured 6th place in a high class field at Shenington. With the final Super 1 round just a fortnight away, most of Britain’s top cadet drivers were out in force and they produced some fiercely competitive racing.

Altogether 45 cadets had turned out for this meeting. Jonny’s day got off to an excellent start when he outmanoeuvred championship favourite Josh Smith on the last lap to win heat 1. From 19th on the grid he made it up to 6th place next time out, producing another great performance.

Things were made a little more difficult for him in heat 3 when he had to come from 31st on the grid. However, he survived one or two shunts and finally finished 15th. These finishing positions earned him 5th place on the “A” Final grid.

Jonny fought his way through to 3rd place in this race but by that stage Josh Smith and Oliver York had already pulled out a good gap. That placed him in a vulnerable position as Zak Fulk, Tom Gamble and Alex Quinn all applied severe pressure. On the last lap, any one of four drivers could have taken 3rd spot. This honour was finally claimed by Fulk as Jonny narrowly lost out to gamble and Quinn. However, he finished some 40 yards ahead of the 7th placed runner Alex McDade.

“We were delighted with Jonny’s performance against many drivers who were much older and vastly more experienced,” said his grandfather Terry Edgar. “He is learning with every race and the knowledge he’s gained this year will help him a lot in 2013.”
