'O' Plate success for Jonny

8th June 2012

Jonny showed championship winning potential when he took part in the ABkC “O” Plate meeting at Rowrah. Competing against all of Britain’s top cadet stars he remained steadfast despite being outpaced for much of the weekend.

“For some reason we just couldn’t get the kart set-up right and it meant that Jonny had to fight hard in every race,” Justin confessed. “It was extremely frustrating for me, yet I was delighted with the way that he responded. It’s easy to drive well when everything’s working for you, but much more difficult when it’s going wrong. This is especially true for an eight year old racing against competitors who are four or even five years older.”

Jonny finished 11th and 9th in his two Heats and started the Pre-final off grid 9. He started the race well, getting up to 6th spot but struggled to remain in touch with the leading pack. Despite fighting hard, he gradually dropped back and finished the race in 14th position.

“We knew that some radical alterations had to be made and opted for a change of engine,” explained Justin. “A few minor adjustments were made to the chassis set-up and then it was a case of keeping our fingers crossed.”

Jonny made another great start in the Grand Final, but on this occasion he started to gain places instead of losing them. It proved to be a long race, lasting for 18 laps, and he eventually came home in 6th position. All things considered, it really was a fantastic result and one that members of his family were proud to celebrate.
