Jonny showed lots of fighting spirit to record his first ever race victory. 25 Comer Cadets turned up at the Welsh circuit, many of whom had been competing at a high level for several years. However, Jonny demonstrated that he wasn’t overwhelmed by emerging as the third fastest in timed Qualifying.

He performed steadily in both of his Heats, finishing 3rd and 4th respectively. That placed him on grid 4 in the final. Whilst lying 3rd in this race, he took a knock that sent him down to 8th position. Showing lots of maturity, he steadily picked up places.

Jonny began his final tour in 4th position, but close enough to the front runners to make a challenge. He actually took the lead half way around this lap and held on until the finish despite strong pressure from Sam Kirkpatrick and Harry Andrews. As an added sweetener he discovered afterwards that he’d set the fastest time of this race.

“It was all very exciting stuff and I’m just pleased that I was there to watch him,” said Grandfather Terry. “As well as being his best result I personally thought that it was Jonny’s most convincing performance. He’s always been quick but on this occasion he showed a lot of maturity, knowing when to make a move and when to hold back. We all returned to Cumbria in a very happy mood”.

Next weekend Jonny will compete in the opening round of Super One at PF where he’ll be the youngest contender. His first race victory couldn’t have come at a more opportune time.
