Jonny turned quite a few heads at Wigan’s Three Sisters circuit when he came very close to breaking the lap record. This circuit was built 35 years ago on the site of Crippens Colliery and acquired its name from three prominent slag banks that once dominated the landscape.
After showing well in his three heats and setting the fastest time in one of them, Jonny looked confident in the final, setting off from 9th position. He quickly made it up to sixth spot before being struck hard from behind and losing control of his kart. He finally finished in 10th position, but the knock definitely affected his performance.
“It was a very competitive race with quite a lot of Super 1 and Stars regulars taking part,” said Justin. “We were all thrilled when Jonny recorded the fastest lap in his 2nd Heat. He also came through extremely well next time out to finish 8th off grid 20.”
Justin concedes that the final was a bit disappointing but added that at this stage results aren’t the most important thing. “Jonny is learning from every race he takes part in and we’re all delighted with his progress so far,” claimed Justin. “The most satisfying aspect for me was that he could match some of Britain’s top cadet drivers for pace and even challenge them for position.”
