Jonny gets going

26th February 2012

Whilton Mill: After a solid showing at Shenington, Jonny got into a winning groove at Whilton Mill in only his second race meeting. 9 Comer Cadet Novices were mixed in with 21 Hondas making an impressive looking grid. As they were deemed to be quicker on this particular circuit, the Hondas all started ahead for the Final.

"We were a little concerned about how things might pan out in the final, because mixed grids usually produce an air of uncertainty," confessed Jonny’s dad, Justin. "On top of this, a couple of things had gone wrong for us in the Heats. Jonny lost a chain in one race and developed ignition problems in another one. It left him with a big job to do in the final as he set off from grid 26."

As at Shenington a week beforehand, the final was cut short due to an accident in Mini-max, which had resulted in the Air Ambulance being called out. Undaunted by the task facing him, Jonny began to rapidly overtake the karts ahead. Soon, he was the leading Comer contender and by the end of this six lap race there were only nine Honda powered karts ahead of him."

He finished some 60 yards or more in front of the next Comer machine driven by Owen Byatt. He also recorded the fastest lap time in his class. It was an impressive performance that should give him added confidence for his next outing at PF on March 4th.
