Jonny Edgar

13th February 2012

Monday 13th February, 2012 is an important date for Jonny Edgar as he celebrates his 8th birthday. However, he’s awaiting the following Sunday with even greater anticipation. It’s on this day that he’ll be making his kart racing debut on the famous Shenington circuit.

“Racing at Shenington involves a round trip of more than 400 miles for us, but it’s a circuit we’re quite familiar with,” says Jonny’s dad, Justin. “My father first raced on this track almost 50 years ago and I’ve competed there many times myself. Jonny’s had a few practice sessions there himself and so he has some idea of what to expect.”

A large number of cadet drivers are expected to turn out for the February event and it’s quite possible that two grids will be required. In preparation for his big day, Jonny has been practicing regularly at PF, Whilton Mill and Rowrah. In January, he even enjoyed a few days testing with the Fusion Team in Lanzarote. The warm weather out there appeared to suit him and he finished up amongst the quickest runners.

Jonny will compete in major events this year as a member of the Fusion Junior Team run under Dan Hart’s watchful eye. “The people at Fusion certainly seem to be happy with what they’ve seen so far and I’m delighted at his progress,” says Justin. “I don’t think he’ll be troubled by the numbers racing at Shenington because he’s already experienced heavy traffic in his practice sessions so far. Nevertheless, I know how difficult

After coming off his novice plates, Jonny hopes to take in a few Super 1 rounds this year. However, he’s not in too much of a hurry just yet and will definitely be giving the opening round at PF a miss. However, round 2 at Whilton Mill on May 13th has been marked on the Edgar calendar as a firm possibility.
