S1 Triumph for Jonny's Dad

In his final season of competitive racing Justin Edgar won a thrilling KGP final at Rowrah, beating six times S1 Champion Mark Litchfield. However, it required two lap-scorers and a series of photographs taken by ace cameraman Chris Walker, to confirm the result, as both drivers were inseparable according to Rowrah's electronic timing system.
In slippery conditions, Litchfield looked supremely confident and he grabbed an early lead after close rival Michael Simpson had dropped out with engine problems. Justin soon took control and led until half way round the final lap when Mark pulled off a brave manoeuvre that earned him 1st place. Justin resumed command at the next corner but Mark somehow pulled alongside around the final bend. They plunged for the line absolutely together, with Justin finally getting the verdict.
It had been a race conducted in the best sporting tradition and afterwards both drivers warmly embraced each other. "I've got tremendous respect for Mark, especially in wet conditions such as these where he's probably the worlds finest" claimed Justin. "He told me that it's one of the best races hes ever had, and the same certainly goes for me, too."
36 year old Justin, who has previously amassed four S1 titles to go with his two GP crowns and four O Plate wins, will be retiring after the final S1 round at Whilton Mill in October. "When Jonny enters cadets next year, I want to give him all of my attention" he says. "Obviously that wouldnt be possible if I'm still competing myself, so this race was definitely my last at Rowrah."
Living within a mile or so of the circui,t Justin admits that there's a sentimental attachment. "My father and both grandfathers had a lot to do with establishing the Rowrah circuit almost 50 years ago, so I had a lump in my throat thinking that this was my final appearance here. Having said that, access is restricted during the week and I imagine that Mark will have completed more laps around this track than I've done."
